The death of a family member or loved one can be a difficult and traumatic time. In order to help with details associated with a funeral, the Mission & Discipleship Committee of the church has prepared a brochure of what to consider in thinking through plans for the funeral and how the church can help.

At a funeral service a Minister or a member of the family will be asked to share a Tribute (Eulogy). An Online Registration can be completed here to help the Minister or family member compose an appropriate Tribute and will also help in the arranging of the Funeral Service.
Arranging the Funeral
When someone dies it comes as a great shock. Sometimes the death may be expected, but nothing prepares you for the emotional shock of losing someone close.

When you suffer bereavement, arranging the funeral for a member of your family or a friend can be painful. At the High Kirk we are here to support and help you in any way that we can. Please be assured of our prayers for you, your family and friends.

It is important that you initially contact your doctor to report the death. You will then be advised to contact your local undertaker. The funeral director will make contact with the minister or an alternative Officiant at the family’s request.
Church Service
In some cases the funeral parlour or crematorium will be considered the most convenient venue for a funeral service.

For many others, and especially for Church members, we would make the High Kirk available.

We do not charge for the use of the Church for a funeral. The undertaker will inform you of the fees for the organist and Church Officer.
The Funeral Service
When we request the services of a minister for a funeral, then we are asking for a Christian service. A funeral service conducted by a minister may include Christian prayers, Bible readings and a short message of comfort to the family and friends gathered.

The funeral service normally lasts 20 minutes. (The undertaker normally makes contact with your local minister at your request.)
Bereavement Support
After the conduct of a funeral we continue to offer you professional bereavement support.

This involves the minister or one of our qualified elders who will continue to make pastoral visits at your request.
